"It's been called 'soulful, country, dada gospel,'" Rose comments in his biography. "We tried calling it 'pigeon hole' music."
"Information Overload" is very appropriately titled. With songs like "Goat" and "Rodeodeo" one has to wonder what Rose does in his free time.
Nevertheless, the album is still an exciting trip through a musical wonderland of sounds and textures.
Rose's musical background goes all the way back to his childhood, when he started playing the flute at his parents request. In high school, Rose lost interest in the flute and started playing the guitar.
One rainy day I picked up an old Sears Silvertone with only three strings left," Rose said in his bio. "I became obsessed, not as a guitarist, but a singer."
Rose now puts his musical ability to good use, even featuring his flute playing on "Information Overload." Rose's band, The Transcendos, help take the music on "Information Overload" to the next level.
Personally, I enjoyed the Jazz feel of "Goat" along with its profound lyrics - yet Rose says that he doesn't do those kind of songs anymore - most on the album. I also enjoyed the "air crash etiquette" on "We're Going Down" and the overall sound of standout tracks like "River and Sky," "Slice of Life" and the title track "Information Overload."
I would recommend "Information Overload" to the listeners that appreciate music as an entity, not just as something on the radio or that is recorded. Rose's style is powerful and sometimes overwhelming. Coming from a musician, this is an amazing project, well worth picking up.
