Naked in a Trailer
Al Rose
***

Chicago-based singer/songwriter Al Rose is technically one of the most inventive songwriters around, and with 20 years of experience with his band, the Transcendos, his musical talents are unarguable - at times, even astounding.

Take the title song, for instance, which is both a relevant personal exploration and an appealing musical venture. Compelling, too, are "Everything Is Flexible", "21st of June", "Reasons To Bleed" and the surprisingly rhythm-based, a capella "Wander Blind."

Sometimes, however, Rose's talents combine to take things a little over the top on this, his second full-length recording. Songs like "Delirium Exacto" and "Mister Bigger" seem more attempts to be different than expressive. The first track, "Visionary Tractor Man," serves as an appropriate introduction to his world: "I used to be a friend of mine/ Now I'm just an iron gate/ An angel with a bitter twist/ I was driving home points like the interstate."

In his live shows, which can be captured regularly at any number of area venues, Rose is energetic, accessible and a seasoned performer. Naked captures much more of that energy than his first, Information Overload, but it's still just slightly overdressed.
