Al Rose is a singer/songwriter in the vein of Tom Petty or John Fogerty. That
said, Pigeon’s Throat has a very Mid-western roots-rock
feel. Rose’s songwriting craft shines through in the album’s expansive, winding
compositions, which are full of lyrical bite and musical muscle. Take, for instance,
“Fish Tale Blues” with its intricate
instrumentation and dueling male/female vocals, or the countrified electric
twang of the wistful tale that is “Lighter
than a Feather” and you’ll see what I mean. Tired of all those crappy bands
you’ve seen lately at your local tavern/club? Then pick yourself up a copy of
Pigeon’s Throat and introduce yourself to the best
bar band you’ve never seen. -- jj
