from Swing Life In
Your Twenties November 1996
Chicago-based songster Al Rose deals in the mundane realities of everyday
life: seasons, the weather, human foibles. Some of the songs on Naked In
A Trailer ("Mister Bigger,"
"21st Of June") discuss the duality
of being the biggest person in one's own world, but just a microcosm in the
grand scheme. "Channel To Channel"
describes the self-induced catatonia that channel-surfing creates. Overall,
the album is hypnotic, swelling and receding like the tide. It's influenced
by folk, jazz, psychedelic rock, blues, country, gospel, and music from the
Far East, but it sounds like nothing else. Though unknown nationally, Rose is
a talent to watch (773-583-7499).
