Cover to Spelunkers' "Breakfast Is America"Spelunkers - Breakfast Is America

Spelunkers is a trio from Bloomington, Illinois whose music twists and turns from the underground to outer space powered by the guitar, songwriting and voice of Tommy O'Donnell. Joined by bassist/vocalist Clay Thompson and drummer John Ganser this is a fun and stunning band.

Spelunkers was originally an instrumental side-project of the legendary Something Brothers. The Something Brothers were a major Midwestern touring sextet in the late '80's and early '90's. While their journeys extended as far as New York and Key West, it was from Minneapolis to Kansas City to Indianapolis to Chicago that the band earned its reputation as one of the great live bands. Their noted opening slots included shows with Soul Asylum, the Meat Puppets, and the Goo Goo Dolls. The Something Brothers had no commercially-released albums. With the demise of that band, the occasional side-outfit trio added vocals and became the full-time effort called Spelunkers. They continue to play all over the Midwest.

Breakfast Is America recalls the virtuosity, diversity and fun of Frank Zappa and The Dixie Dregs with more power, soaring vocals and lyrical wit. The lone instrumental on the record is the final cut, a cover of Raymond Scott's "Powerhouse," best known as the "Ren & Stimpy" theme. This is a long-awaited debut.
