Middle
8 presented the classics on its debut compact disc from 1998: classic
harmonies and melodies, classic songwriting, classic musicianship.
Comparisons to Del Amitri, the Gin Blossoms and The BoDeans are
not amiss. Centered around the songwriting and singing of musical
partners Brian Sheridan and Andy Perostianis, Ever Since Ever has
the punch of a band that plays the bars in Chicago and the romance
and beauty of a folk duo. The Illinois Entertainer proclaimed Middle
8 purveyors of "unapologetic pop."
Producer Ralph Covert, then best-known as songwriter and leader
of The Bad Examples and now of Ralph's World, was attracted to their
sibling-like sound and the duo's original songs, which are credited
to either Perostianis or Sheridan, or are collaborations. The album
contains only originals, including two cuts co-written with Covert
(one each with the two leaders). During the recording of Ever Since
Ever, guitarist Jim Workman and drummer Ron Barnes (both rock club
vets) made the full-time commitment to Middle 8. Joining the sessions
were mandolinist/guitarist John Rice from The Insiders, piano player
Steve Wozny from The Bad Examples and Buddah Slim, formerly of The
Remainders. M8 released a second album on Waterdog and continues
to play several shows a year. Brian Sheridan is now the main bass
player for the live Ralph's World band.
The
cover of Ever Since Ever features the art of Tony Fitzpatrick, one
of America's most-acclaimed contemporary artists.

Middle 8's
second disc on Waterdog, released in 2003, again showcased the
nearly-brotherly harmonies of Brian Sheridan and Andy Perostianas
in front of a rockin' pop band. Drummer Ron Barnes and six-stringer
Jim Workman are complemented by guitarists Tom O'Brien and Steve
Gerlach, both of the Bad Examples. Also from the BE's is Steve
Wozny on various keyboards. This sophomore effort was graced by
harmonica virtuoso Corky Siegel while Scott Hall provided the
cello and violin arrangements. All the songs on this set come
from the pen of Brian Sheridan save for "Weirdo," a
collaboration with Ralph Covert. While M8 continues to perform
select shows, Brian is now also the mainstay live bassist for
Ralph's World.
