| This
debut disc by Peter Bernas was an album about relationships gone
wrong presented by a new distinctive voice. These are extremely
personal and passionate songs that should resonate with any lover
who has lost. Comparisons in tone to the early solo work of Neil
Young are not amiss.
Aiding Bernas in this creative outpouring was producer Ralph Covert
well-known as leader of Chicago's The Bad Examples and, in the 21st
Century, Ralph's World as well. Extremely integral to the sound
of the album was the guitar of the late John Duich (Legendary Blues
Band) who plays on every cut and contributed a solo instrumental,
"The Paul Super Apple Blues." The musicians included drummer
Ron Barnes (Middle 8), keyboardist Buddha Slim (Remainders), guitarist
John Siegle (Insiders), and bassist Pickles Piekarski (Bad Examples).
Dean Goldstein, Ken Jagmin and Jeff Vezain appeared as background
vocalists.
One track, "Swieta w Chicago," which already appeared
had on the 1998 Christmas compilation Reindeer Pancakes (Tie
Records - CS9803), is an adaptation of Covert's "Autumn In
New Mexico" to reflect the experience of post-war Polish immigrants
during the holiday season and is sung in the native tongue of Bernas'
parents. Covert serves as co-lyricist on two other songs as well.
Formerly from the band Coin, Greg Interdonato helped shape the music
of "With You On My Mind."
Bernas subsequently formed a band called Made
To Be Broken. After a few years hiatus from music, he returned
with the boisterious punk outfit Love
Dictators. He unexpectedly passed away in his sleep at
the age of 33 on January 30, 2007. |
